Up for Updates on Wilkes and the Beltway Bribery Scandal
|
| |
Then-congressman Randy "Duke"
Cunningham recently pleaded guilty to corruption charges involving
bribery and tax evasion. His alleged co-conspirators, who gave Cunningham
more than $2.4 million in return for many millions more in government
contracts, include Brent Wilkes and Mitch Wade.
Wilkes owns and controls a wide array
of companies created to pursue different types of federal contracts,
including Automated Document Conversion Services (ADCS) and the
Group W family of companies. Wade owned MZM Inc., a defense contractor,
until it was sold last year to an investment firm, whereupon it
became Athena Innovative Solutions.
Wilkes and Wade also made hundreds
of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions at the state and
federal level. Below is a list of the candidates and committees
at the federal level who received campaign contributions from Wilkes,
his employees, and his many companies since 1991.
Now prosecutors think that Wilkes
hired prostitutes for Cunningham, and possibly for other members
of Congress. And House Intelligence Committee Chairman Peter Hoekstra
isn't
surprised at all that the investigation has gone in this direction.
We'll update the list as we dig up
more contributions and as we find out which of these people and
committees are going to disgorge any money they received.
Check out Wilkes and Co.'s giving
at the state level, where California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
weighs in with a king-sized $90,000, here.

Wilkes and his associates here.

Note to media, bloggers: the breakdown of these contributions
is available upon request. E-mail Ned Wigglesworth at ned-at-therestofus.org
